Bathroom is one of the most important rooms to always clean

The Top 2 Most Important Rooms To Clean In Your Home

Here at Maidstr, our customer support and cleaning providers often get asked questions from our customers regarding maintaining the tidiness and cleanliness of their homes.

One of the most asked questions is this: “I really don’t like to spend precious time cleaning…but if I must which rooms should I absolutely focus on?”

Really, the most optimal solution is to clean your entire home by breaking up tasks into daily, weekly and monthly chunks and tackling the whole house or apartment that way.

But that can be overwhelming or not feasible for various reasons.

So how do we answer the question of which rooms to really focus on?

It depends.

From a stress minimization point of view, you want to ensure that areas where you spend the most time are the ones where you stay on top of the cleaning. Stress and clutter in the home can seriously affect your state of mind so if that is the case, then areas you should focus on are living room and bedroom.

But

We are in the midst of a global pandemic and being super focused on hygiene and germ removal in order to ensure ours and our loved ones health and safety, our recommendation is to focus on these areas:

  • Kitchen
  • Bathrooom

The reason is that the kitchen and bathroom are ground zero for germs and bacteria and all other manner of grossness. You don’t need to do a deep clean top to bottom every day but these simple steps, done daily, will help you keep a handle on the mess and will make deep cleanings much easier for you.

Daily Cleaning: Kitchen

  • If you have dirty dishes, then do your best to wash them and put away them away by the end of the day. Or place them in the dishwasher.
  • Clean the sink as it can hold all manner of residue and garbage in the chute that can makes things stinky.
  • Ensure you wipe down the counters and other surfaces by the end of the night.
  • Wipe down stove top, if you had cooked on it.
  • Sweep up the floor by the end of the day.

Daily Cleaning: Bathroom

A lot happens in your bathroom so exercise control over this crucial space in your home by doing these manageable tasks daily or at least 2 to 3 times a week. These tasks can be easily incorporated into your overall bathroom workflow and usage.

  • Declutter your bathroom. What this means removing knick-knacks on windowsills, removing items from the counter top, and even remove things like toilet seat covers. Ensure that as much of the surface is exposed as possible so that you can clean and wipe down as much as possible.
  • You likely don’t want to hear this but you must. When flushing the toilet there is a risk that aerosolized feces into be shot up into the air. These particles and microbes can cling to surfaces areas like toilet seat covers, knick knacks and even your toothbrush, so yeah, make sure you remove them when cleaning and make it a habit to put the toilet seat down when flushing!!
  • After you wash up, or brush your teeth, shave or put on your makeup, take 30 seconds to wipe down sinks, counter top and faucets.
  •  Make sure to keep a scrubbing brush or sponge nearby so that when you’re in the tub, before your shower, scrub out the tub and if you have time, the tiles, before soaping up and taking your own shower.
  • After you’re done with the shower and have toweled off, use a rag or mop to do a quick mop up.
  • When done using the toilet, wipe down the seat and lid with cleaning wipes (placed nearby in bathroom cabinets) or if don’t have any, grab toilet paper and use those. Estimated time: 30 seconds.

Doing these tasks daily will really help minimize time and effort when it comes to more intensive deep cleaning of these areas.
